Ranikhet is a Hindi term which
stands for pasture of Queen. As per the popular myth around the area, that Raja
Sudhardev dedicated this place to Rani Padmini, his official consort, as her
residential place by naming it Ranikeht. To their surprise, people will not

British colonized this place in 1869, they set it up as the center of the
Kumaon Regiment and spent their days in summer seasons to move away from the
