Among various hill stations in
the state of Jammu & Kashmir, Gulmarg is one among them which is located
around 2730 meters above sea level and it is situated in the Baramulla district
in Jammu and Kashmir. Gulmarg hill station was discovered in the year 1927 and
it is attracting many foreigners and film makers. The word “gul” stands for
flowers, hence the name of this place i.e. Gulmarg means “a meadow of flowers”.
Some of the flowers that bloom in this hill station are daises, bluebells,

Popular tourist attractions in
the Gulmarg are Gondola Lift, Alpather Lake, Heliskiing & skiing, Ferozpore
Nallah, Khilanmarg, Ningli Nallah, shrine of Baba Reshi and Gulmarg Biosphere
Reserve. Gondola Lift which is constructed newly attracts various tourists to
take a ride in it and Gondola Lift offers ride above the pine-dad slopes and
mountains of the region which also offers very beautiful view of the Gulmarg.
Gulmarg is considered as Asia’s most famous Heliskiing resort as the green
slopes of the Gulmarg are covered with snow from December which makes it
perfect place for ski runs. Alpather Lake located at a distance of 13 Km from
Gulmarg, and this lake remains in the frozen state till mid-June and even after
the June you can see chunks of ice floating in this lake.
